Summer is my favourite time of the year. Everyone is happier in summer for so many reasons, the most important of which being holidays and warm weather. I mean, how can you not be happy when you’re warm and on holidays? I’ll never understand anyone who doesn’t like summer. Not liking summer is like not liking happiness.
I live with two other housemates who love summer just as much as I do. We love summer so much that we don’t even bother turning on the air conditioner when it’s hot. We just prefer being warm and seeing as we’re cold for the majority of the year in Melbourne, why would we bother turning on the air conditioning. Bentleigh is only warm for two, maybe three months a year if we’re lucky, so we’re not going to spend that time in the cold.
It wasn’t until last week, with only a couple of weeks in summer left to go, that we figured we should probably turn the air conditioning on. My housemate was having people over to our house for his birthday, and it was forty degrees celsius that day. Us three housemates would’ve absolutely thrived in that temperature, but we didn’t want to make his guests uncomfortable and then have them go home early or something.
When we went to turn the cooling an hour before guests arrived, we realised it was busted. We had a bit of crisis on our hands and desperately needed rapid air conditioning repairs close to Malvern. Rental properties have agreements with air conditioning technicians and the likes, and so we got it fixed a couple of hours after our guests arrived. We couldn’t do it any faster and so his guests just copped it. They were much more relieved than I expected though, once the air conditioning was repaired.
For the next hour after the aircon was repaired, they couldn’t stop going on about how they were in shock that we could live in an environment like that. They don’t know what they’re missing.
